I just wanted to briefly start a post on a very ambitious and comprehensive Folk Art exhibition going on at the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
"Wit and Whimsy: Folk Art in Canada" is an exhibition of folk art masterpieces from Canada's national museums, and it's presented alongside a few stunning rooms featuring "Canadian Folk Art from the Collection of Susan A. Murray". Susan is a good friend and a supporter of this site.
The concentration and breadth of this exhibition is amazing, and you won't find a better opportunity to view significant works from Maud Lewis, Joe Norris, Joe Sleep, and many, many more. We were at the opening last Thursday and plan to post more details and pictures soon!
Go, go, go! For more information, see the Art Gallery of Hamilton website and look under Current Exhibitions:

| Great to see canadians do value our very true canadian veiw of folk art . A show such as this will go a long way to educate, not only those of us who already love folk art but may also add many more to the list of folk art lovers. I hope that you can show some of the art on line , many of us who cant get to the gallery would gain much by this. |

Have no fear, carver kim, an article with photos is in the works for FAC. I'll be posting it in a few weeks (just got back from vacation so I'm a bit slow writing it!)
In the meantime, there's a great review of the show in the Hamilton Spectator. Here's the link:

Susan Murray's part of the collection is touring until 2009. As I understand, it will be going across the country. I'll try to have exact locations in the article. If you can't make it to Hamilton, I would definitely recommend you check it out when it gets to an art gallery near you! _________________ "Art is a means for survival"
