Hi everyone,
One of our forum members (and listed artists), Paul McFadden, sent some information about the New Brunswick Folk Art festival he is helping to organise. This will be the first show of its kind in NB and an exciting opportunity for folk artists and collectors. The festival will be held on August 4th and 5th will be from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm in Shediac, New Brunswick.
If you are thinking of exhibiting your work, please note this show is open to Folk Artist / Outsider Artists living in New Brunswick only and fine art does not qualify. There is a $50 application fee to be paid upon acceptance into this festival.
Here is an excerpt from the application form that Paul sent me:
In the spirit of promoting the arts and artists of our region and the downtown core, the New Brunswick Folk Art Society in collaboration with the Department of Community Services and the Centreville Shediac Downtown Inc is organising New Brunswick?s first Folk Art Festival ? Festival D?Art Naif Du Nouveau Brunswick
This Festival is intended to bring together all of New Brunswick?s Folk /Outsider artists and showcase the diversity and imagination of New Brunswick?s thriving Folk Art/Outsider Art?s community. All Folk Artist and Outsider Artist living in New Brunswick are invited to apply. Fees are $50.00 per artist, to be paid upon acceptance into this festival.
Application will take place on Monday, May 14th, Tuesday, May 15th, Wednesday, May 16th, Thursday, May 17th and on Tuesday, May 22nd from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Shediac Town Hall, 290 Main Street. Organisers will provide and install the canopies at Pascal Porier Park. We plan on having 20 canopies to accommodate 40 artists; 2 artists per canopy. The dimension of the canopies is 12 feet by 14 feet.
* Please note an application does not guarantee acceptance in this festival. A jury will review applications. Please submit 3 photos of your art work along with a brief bio of yourself. J-peg images on cd or via email are acceptable.

So there you go NB folk artists - get ready to exhibit your work! If you want a full application, or if you have any questions or comments you can write to Paul directly at oldtruck@nbnet.nb.ca . I think this show is a fantastic idea and I encourage everyone to check it out.
Keep us up to date on the plans Paul, and good luck to all the artists! If you attend the show, please feel free to post some pictures and thoughts to share with those of us who can't be there _________________ "Art is a means for survival"
